If your physician has ordered a multiple sleep latency test (MSLT) this test consists of 5 scheduled "nap" recordings, the first nap will begin 2 hours after you wake up in the morning. In between your naps you will be free to move around. For your enjoyment and to pass the time you may bring something to occupy your time (book, magazine, letter writing, etc.) If your physician has ordered a maintenance of wakefulness test (MWT) this test will be done in a similar style as a MSLT yet you will be kept awaken during sleep onset (this test is primarily performed on truck drives and airline pilots who may have difficulty staying awake in dangerous situations) during the day please bring a meal, a refrigerator is available if necessary. Also please bring all medications that you take during the day with you.

What To Expect

Polysomnography (Sleep Study) is an overnight recording of you sleeping habits and patterns. Various sensors will be applied with paste or tape to monitor and record eye movement, brain wave activity, muscle tone, body movements, breathing patterns, oxygen levels, and heart rate, along with audiovisual recordings. All these monitors are painless. The sleep study usually takes approx 6-8 hours to complete. All efforts have and will be made to make the patient as comfortable as possible. Our bedrooms have been made to have a homey feel. A trained specialist will be there throughout the whole procedure to ensure the patients safety and comfort throughout the whole sleep study. Results of the sleep study will be made available to the ordering physician within 3 - 5 working days after the completion of the diagnostic procedure. Some insurance companies require pre-authorization, in such a case we will have to wait for the authorization before scheduling the diagnostic study. Transportation to and from the facility is available. Free of charge. In the case you do require this complimentary service please let us know when scheduling your study with us so that we can assess if you meet our transportation criteria.
